Attorney General Announces Patient Abuse Guilty Plea Of Former Kentucky Nurse Assistant

Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced today that former nurse assistant Marsha Doolin, age 23, has pled guilty to one count of misdemeanor patient abuse in connection with her treatment of an elderly female resident of the Grand Haven Nursing Home in Cynthiana, Kentucky.

As a condition of her guilty plea, Doolin has agreed never to seek, accept, or continue any employment that would involve direct patient care. She has also agreed never to seek a nurse or nurse assistant license in the future in this state or any other state. She faces a sentence of up to 12 months in jail.

"Today is Kentucky’s 2nd Annual Elder Abuse Awareness Day," said Attorney General Greg Stumbo.  "Today and everyday, patient welfare in nursing homes is a top priority of my office. Anyone who experiences abuse or suspects that a loved one is being abused is encouraged to call my tip line."

The investigation by Attorney General Stumbo's Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control Division was led by Kentucky Bureau of Investigation Agent Rodney Lawrence. Adrene Commodore, Judy Coopage and other Grand Haven staff assisted in the investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Mary Cartwright.
